Arcadia

In ancient Greece Arcadia was a land of simple pastoral life. This short documentary explores a present day Arcadia represented by a hunting estate deep within the North Highlands. A proposed wind farm development threatens to wipe out the estate's future and the local community is taking a stand.

Commissioned by the Scottish Documentary Institutes creative documentary series Bridging the Gap. Broadcast BBC Scotland.


The New Ten Commandments

Part of a feature documentary based around 10 basic human rights issues. Premiered at Edinburgh Film Festival 2008 and broadcast on BBC2.

To celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, Lansdowne Productions and the Scottish Documentary Institute gathered together some of the most talented filmmakers and visual artists based in Scotland today for this feature length documentary.


The Dirty Digger

Filmmaker, David Graham Scott, joins a controversial Glasgow magazine as its court photographer naming and shaming gangsters, petty criminals and paedophiles. This gritty documentary questions the validity of such vigilante journalism and the paper's general ethics.


Detox or Die
Broadcast BBC 2004 (One Life). Gold Medal winner New York Film Festivals 2005

Detox or Die was commissioned for the BBC's "ONE Life" strand. This documentary biopic of drug addiction culminates in a gut-wrenching attempt to detox with ibogaine. The African visionary drug has, however, been linked to several fatalities and has some rather unpleasant side effects. An emotional journey that proves ultimately redeeming.


WireBurners
Broadcast BBC 2003 and Runner-up Celtic Film Festival 2004

This film follows a trio of homeless people who make a living from scrap metal and other street rubbish. A haunting, sometimes harrowing, portrait of street life but not without a sense of hope.


Beyond the Highlands
Broadcast Scottish Television 2002

A personal odyssey by the director to his homeland of Caithness in the far north of Scotland. He attempts to come to terms with who and what he is through engaging with the local characters.


Death on Eagle's Rock
BBC Scotland 2002

Historical documentary about the mysterious death of the Queen's uncle in an aircrash during WW2. Pitched original idea to BBC Scotland and researched the project.


Little Criminals
Runner-up Celtic Film Festival 2001. Bafta nominated 2002. Scenes broadcast within BBC documentary.

A year in the lives of a group of heroin addicted shoplifters in Glasgow, Scotland (1999-2000). This feature length documentary has been extensively used as a teaching aid and has been validated by various harm-reduction agencies. Some sections were broadcast in Detox or Die (BBC One Life, 2004).


Hanging with Frank

A grim but insightful portrait of a Glasgow prison's execution chamber and a man who worked there in the 1950's. Shot entirely on 16mm grainy black & white film stock in 1996. This unique social and historical document has also been lodged in the Scottish Film Archive.
